The Streetcar Company to present Les Miserables

MEREDITH — Few people have not seen a presentation of, or at least heard of, the musical phenomenon that is Les Miserables. Based on the novel of the same name by French poet and novelist Victor Hugo, it has music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, original French lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, with an English-language libretto by Herbert Kretzmer.

This Tony award winning musical will be presented by The Streetcar Company in late April and its cast and crew represent many area communities including Laconia, Gilford, Gilmanton, Holderness, Moultonborough, Meredith, Tilton and Sanbornton. The company encourages readers to come and support their family, friends and neighbors and especially community theater in The Lakes Region.
Set in early 19th-century France, 'Les Miz' as it is commonly referred to, is the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his quest for redemption after serving years in jail for a minor crime . Valjean decides to break his parole and start his life anew but he is relentlessly tracked down by police inspector Javert. Along the way, Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into the volatile revolutionary period in France, where a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade.
Les Miz will be presented at Inter-Lakes Community Auditorium April 25th and 26th at 7 pm with a matinee scheduled for Sunday the 27th at 2 pm.
