Bicycle exchange meeting on March 24

LACONIA — A brainstorming meeting for the Laconia Area Bicycle Exchange initiative will be held on Monday, March 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lakes Region Child Care conference room, located at 22 Strafford Street Unit #4. The purpose of the Laconia Area Bicycle Exchange (LABE) will be to provide a means of inexpensive alternative transportation in the form of reliable and maintained bicycles, made available to people who benefit with greater mobility as it relates to work, family and personal living. The focus of the Exchange would be for people who have no means to afford an automobile or who have no valid drivers license. A referral program would be used by working with area human service organizations that would refer people to the Exchange.

Providing a means of greater mobility for those in our community with special needs, helps with stable employment and meeting personal responsibilities such as doctor's appointments. There are also family and recreational benefits.

To form an organizational structure working with like minded organizations and volunteers to create a board or committee structure. To locate a secure downtown location that would provide storage for and scheduled access to an inventory of bicycles. Along with helmets and safety brochures on site air pumps and local business and city departments. To receive civic support in making Laconia even more bicycle friendly.

RSVP required. A short survey to help with planning can be found at For more information or to register for the Monday meeting call or email John Rogers at 524-5288 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
