P.I.C.K. to hold 2nd Annual Big Band Dance

LACONIA — People Investing in Community and Kids (P.I.C.K.) will hold its second annual Big Band Dinner-Dance. Last year's event drew guests from all over central and southern New Hampshire. According to P.I.C.K. Board member Charlene Smith, "For people who take ballroom dance classes, this dance offers them the opportunity to use what they have learned. Others simply come to listen to the music."

Set to coincide with Mother's Day Weekend, this event will take place Saturday, May 10 from 6-10 p.m. at the Opechee Inn & Spa Grand Ball Room in Laconia featuring a full buffet dinner. Music will be provided by Dr. Sax's Swinging Big Band. This eighteen piece band plays classic jazz works of the 1920's, '30's and '40's, with an emphasis on the popular ensembles of the day.

In addition, there will be an opportunity for couples and groups to have a photo taken by a professional photographer. "Last year we had a number of couples dressed in gorgeous ballroom dancing attire and thought how nice it would be for them to have a photo of themselves to remember the occasion". Stacey Brobst of Franklin will provide her professional photography services for the occasion. Brobst frequently photographs local events, including this year's Red Dress Gala which was held last month.

The evening's festivities will include a silent auction, and a 50/50 drawing to help P.I.C.K., a 501c3 non-profit organization, raise funds for needy families of the Lakes Region. P.I.C.K. is happy to accept donations of items and gift certificates valued at over fifty dollars for use in the silent auction.

For businesses wishing to sponsor this event there are a number of tiered options which may be viewed on P.I.C.K.'s website. This years' sponsors to date include Engraving, Awards & Gifts; Page Street Storage, and BizBuzz Marketing Partners.

Early Bird ticket prices are in effect until April 1. Individuals are $50 and a table of eight is $375. Starting April 1 prices increase to $55 dollars per person and $400 per table. Tickets are currently being sold at Greenlaw's Music and Audio on Main Street in Laconia and can also be purchased by phone at 273-0861 or online at www.pick1.biz/upcoming-events.html.
