Audubon Group Hosting Progarm on Vernal Pools

MOULTONBOROUGH — On Thursday, March 20 at 7 p.m. at the Loon Center in Moultonborough, the Lakes Region Chapter of the New Hampshire Audubon Society will present a program about "Vernal Pool Ecology - Understanding the Four and Six-legged Denizens of Spring."

Vernal pools may appear to be just springtime puddles, but they are a critical part of our woodland ecology. As homes for breeding insects and amphibians, they sustain many surrounding species. Join Master Naturalist Dr. Rick Van de Poll on a pictorial tour of these ephemeral pools, discover what the vernal pool indicator species are, and find out where you can explore and document vernal pools in your neighborhood -- and perhaps get inspired to start a vernal pool registry in your town.

The Loon Center is located on Lee's Mill Road; follow the signs on Blake Road from Route 25 near the Moultonborough Central School, or from Rte. 109 turn on to Lee Road and turn left on Lee's Mill Road. Refreshments will be served.
