PLYMOUTH — Speare Memorial Hospital will be holding an inaugural Shamrock Shuffle 5K health walk/run on Saturday, March 15 at 9 a.m. The start/finish is at the Plymouth Regional Senior Center, down by the river "behind" Main St. in Plymouth.
"We are excited to leap toward spring with our first ever 5K," says Michele Hutchins, Speare's director of community relations. "We designed this event in response to outcomes from our Community Health Needs Assessment. Our community has told us they want access, to and information on, more ways to put active living in to play in their own lives. As an untimed, health walk/run we are trying to appeal to a broad spectrum of people and athletic abilities."
Hutchins continues, "Whether you've been active all winter and looking to transition to the upcoming race season, an avid walker logging steps on a pedometer, or simply motivated to move more as the days get warmer and longer, this event can be that first step. The course winds its way through the streets and neighborhoods of Plymouth, and is sure to raise your heart rate and your spirits as we get ready to welcome spring."
Like so many initiatives, Speare's Shamrock Shuffle 5K wouldn't be possible without broad community support. Speare is partnering with the Central New Hampshire CERT & MRC to help ensure the safety of walkers/runners on the course. Additionally, special thanks goes to the event sponsors: Pot 'o Gold Sponsor New Hampshire Electric Co-Op; Four Leaf Clover Sponsors Medical Reimbursement Specialists, Mike's Country Kitchen and Mountain Medical Aesthetics; and Leprechaun Sponsor Lisa's Personal Training Studio.
