Law Enforcement Grows Beards for the 6th Annual Winni Dip

LACONIA —  For this year's 6th Annual Winni Dip, spectators will be seeing more facial hair than normal taking the Dip into Lake Winnipesaukee. You might think it's to help insulate the face from the cold water but that is just an added benefit.

This year, Police Officers are growing facial hair for Special Olympics in conjunction with the Winni Dip. Officer, Brian Levesque, from Merrimack PD proposed the idea in November at the Annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement conference. Several agencies loved the idea and proposed it to their chiefs. With a chief's approval, officers need to donate or fundraise $100 to go to Special Olympics for the Winni Dip. Officers started growing their beards on February 1 and will continue to grow them until the Winni Dip, which is happening this weekend on Saturday, March 8.

After the Dip into frozen Lake Winnipesaukee, officers with a beard will be treated to a nice clean shave by Polished & Proper Barbershop & Shave Parlor of Laconia. Polished & Proper will be on site at the Winni Dip to clean the officers up and send them back into to their communities polished and proper.

"It has been such fun seeing the 'Grow a Beard' fundraiser created and initiated by Law Enforcement come together," stated Mary Conroy, president of Special Olympics New Hampshire. "We've been quite impressed by the number of beards being grown, the money raised and the reaction from the local communities. We look forward to even more agencies getting involved next year."
