WOLFEBORO — Winter Carnival returns to Wolfeboro February 22 through March 1 and will feature a celebration of the Abenaki Ski Area's 78th season.
With events based at Abenaki and the Pop Whalen Ice Arena as well as throughout greater Wolfeboro, there is literally something for everyone, from a pancake breakfast and a horse drawn sleigh ride to ski racing and jumping competitions and free ice skating.
One special event is the Abenaki Winter Triathlon that gets underway at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 22. It starts with a 1/2 mile snowshoe at Abenaki Ski Area--up the Freeway trail and down the Main slope. Participants then strap on their cross-country skis for a 2.78 mile ski through the snowy woods, then run into the ice arena to finish off with a 1 mile lap skate.
Rregistration is available online at www.wolfeboronh.us/abenaki or by picking up a brochure at the Wolfeboro or Tuftonboro Town Halls and Libraries. Complete map, equipment lists and race schedule information can be found at www.wolfeboronh.us/abenaki.
