Recent Works by PSU Professor of Art Thomas Driscoll Jr. at the Karl Drerup Art Gallery

PLYMOUTH — The Karl Drerup Art Gallery at Plymouth State University will present an exhibition of recent works by Professor of Art Thomas Driscoll Jr. February 11–March 8, beginning with an opening reception from 4–6 p.m. February 11.

Interim Gallery Director Cynthia Robinson says, "The work in this exhibit represents Tom Driscoll's explorations of the sense of place: geographically, temporally and psychologically."

The exhibition includes two parallel bodies of work: the highly textured, gestural pieces explore nonverbal creative impulses leading to self-discovery; while the collage/map pieces merge more formal and conceptual approaches to image making. Robinson says Driscoll recognizes and embraces a variety of intersections between these two methodologies.

A public gallery talk by Driscoll is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, February 19.

Driscoll holds a BFA from Plymouth State and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He has been teaching at Plymouth State University since 1989, coordinating the painting program and teaching courses within the drawing, printmaking and foundations programs. In addition, he has offered workshops in stone lithography at a regional cooperative printmaking studio. He has served as a juror for regional competitions and has curated several exhibits, including a national encaustic show and a survey of New Hampshire painting at the turn of the 21st century.
Professor Driscoll leads an active studio life and has exhibited in juried competitions both regionally and nationally, winning several awards for his work. He also has had many one- and two-person regional exhibits. He is a member of the Ogunquit Arts Collaborative in Maine and is represented by McGowan Fine Art in Concord, N.H.
The Karl Drerup Art Gallery is located in the Draper and Maynard Building on No. Main Street in Plymouth. Gallery hours are Mon.–Fri. 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Wed. 10 a.m.–8 p.m., Sat. and Sun. 1 p.m.–4 p.m., and by appointment. Gallery information is online at Plymouth.edu/gallery.
