MEREDITH — On Sunday and Monday, February 9 and 10 the Winniplayers Players Community Theater Group will be holding auditions for a special Spring production called The Brundibar Project. This unique production will be produced in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day.
With parts for kids, teens and adults, The Brundibar Project is made up of two one-act performances, Tony Kushner’s play But the Giraffe in conjunction with the historically important musical Brundibar by Hans Krasa and Adolf Hoffmeister with new lyrics by Tony Kushner. Following the full scale production of these two plays there will be talkbacks with the cast and audience and educational displays of historic material in the lobby.
Brundibar was performed 55 times in the Terezin concentration camp by Jewish children during WWII. Many of the children did not survive the war. But the Giraffe was written as a companion piece to the musical. This colorful production has roles for all ages and will include a large ensemble for those interested in being involved with limited stage experience.
Those interested in auditioning need only attend one of the two audition evenings. Auditions begin at 6 p.m. for those only interested in taking part in the non-singing section, But the Giraffe. Auditions for the musical Brundibar will begin at 7 p.m. For more information, including a cast breakdown, rehearsal dates and information about the production, visit www.winnipesaukeeplayhouse.org.
