McIninich Foundation Supports Mill Business Plan

LACONIA — The Belknap Mill Society has received operational funds from the McIninch Foundation for the development of a sustainable business plan.

The Mill trustees have been engaged in developing a new strategic plan and a development plan to increase membership and funding as well as to support a full-time executive director, responsible for implementing the two plans. In July, the Society hired Denise Sharlow as development director, subsequently naming her the Mill's executive director.

Sharlow has been involved with non-profit organizations since her migration to New Hampshire in 1996. She brings a background in entrepreneurial enterprise, arts and entertainment development and management, banking, and economic and community development.

The Society also has made a significant investment in capital improvements over the last few years, addressing structural issues, window improvements, fitting up office space, and restoration of the iconic cupola and the flagpole that has been an identifiable fixture in Laconia for many years.
Funds from the McIninch Foundation will support the Mill's efforts to collaborate within the Lakes Region and secure funding for relevant projects that support its mission and the community's commitment to sustain a creative economy.
