GILFORD – Gilford's Candlelight Stroll committee recently held its first meeting of the year at Gilford Public Library and planning for this year's stroll is underway. The committee has announced that the third annual Candlelight Stroll will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2014, in Gilford Village.
The 2013 Candlelight Stroll was an overwhelming success and was enjoyed by hundreds of residents of Gilford and the Lakes Region. Held in December of last year, the event was very well-attended despite the forecast of a major snowstorm.
The event was successful due to the generosity of local donors and the many volunteers who worked in frigid temperatures as they set up and lit the over 1,000 candles that flickered along the streets of Gilford Village. Volunteers from the stroll committee and from Gilford's Thompson-Ames Historical Society welcomed visitors to all three buildings of the historical society. Many residents living on Belknap Mountain Road in the village opened up their homes to the general public. Members of Gilford's police and fire departments were present, and the fire department offered attendees S'mores as they were warmed by a bonfire in the village field.
Committee members have made it their goal to make this year's stroll better than in previous years. The committee invites all those who are interested in helping with this event to attend one of the committee's meetings. Stroll committee meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 3 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room at the Gilford Public Library. The library is located at 31 Potter Hill Road in Gilford.
