'Haircuts for Meaghan' today at Laconia Christian Academy

LACONIA —A fund raising event is being held today to benefit the family of a local teenager recently diagnosed with cancer. Meaghan Aubut is a 16 year-old student at Laconia Christian Academy whose bone cancer was discovered shortly before Christmas and she has already begun chemotherapy treatment. "Haircuts for Meaghan," which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today in the Laconia Christian Academy gymnasium, will help the Aubut family cover their mounting medical expenses.

Several local hair stylists and barbers have offered their time to provide haircuts in exchange for a donation to the family. In addition, many local businesses have donated items to a raffle which will also be held during the event. Raffle items include an Xbox, two full-length snowboards, two skateboards, an Ipad mini, four sets of tickets to the Boston Bruins, a Victorian tea set, two computer bags, a custom-made leather belt, gift certificates to The Local restaurant, two vests, and more. Shaw's Supermarket has also offered to cater the event.

All proceeds raised during the event will be given to the Aubut family. The event is about more than just medical bills, however. Organizers encourage anyone to stop in to offer Meaghan a hat, a card, or simply their well-wishes and emotional support. Laconia Christian Academy is located at 1386 Meredith Center Road in Laconia.
