ASTRA Club brings Holiday Cheer to many in the Lakes Region

MEREDITH — In the midst of the holiday season, the ASTRA Club of Meredith remains as active as ever, participating in many community service events.

Part of an international community service organization for young adults, ages 12 to 25, the ASTRA club of Meredith club has sixteen members representing Meredith and Moultonborough.

For Thanksgiving, the ASTRA girls decorated and filled six Thanksgiving boxes for families in need, providing a turkey, stuffing, gravy, potatoes, and other classic dishes for each family to enjoy.

Rolling right into the Christmas season, the ASTRA club participated in the annual Festival of Trees, a humanitarian event organized by the Altrusa Club of Meredith. Decorating a tree benefiting the humane society, helping out at the children's event, and checking coats at the gala event, the ASTRA girls were busy volunteers. In addition to these activities, the ASTRA girls went caroling at the Golden View Health Care Center.

The ASTRA girls are very active in their community not only during the holiday season but year round, participating in events such as Gowns for Girls, Weenie Weekend: selling hot dogs and cold drinks for the Altrusa Club of Meredith, Caregivers Mini Golf Tournament, as well as making care packages for veterans, cards for Meals on Wheels, and flower pots for the elderly.

The club meets on every second Monday of the month at the Meredith Community Center. Always looking for new members, the club offers many fun and positive community service and leadership opportunities.
