MacRae's 'Faces of Laconia' at the Belknap Mill

LACONIA — Lakes Region photographer Alan MacRae will present a program about his ongoing project, "Faces of Laconia", on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m. in the Belknap Mill. The ongoing project so far includes the portraits of 19 people who have made significant contributions to Laconia and the surrounding area.

Working with Brenda Kean of the Laconia Historical and Museum Society, MacRae contacted and interviewed the people they felt had made a difference through their unique contributions to the city. "The interviews brought depth and a whole new dimension to the project," MacRae said. "After the first photo session, I really realized how powerful and engaging that was. Catching the essence of the person was what I set out to do, and the conversation produced the rapport to do that."

MacRae and Kean interviewed most of the people at their own homes or place of work, where MacRae could get more telling shots at a location where the subject were the most comfortable.

MacRae said, "Every conversation I had validated the reason I chose them to be included."
The "Faces of Laconia" portraits are on display at the Belknap Mill through January.
