LACONIA — Lakes Region Community College will be offering new graphic design and media arts workshops for the Spring Semester 2014. They are Adobe Illustrator, Basic Video Capture and Editing, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign. Each of the new workshops will be taught by one of two graphic design and media arts specialists, Mike Place (Tilton), and Gail Beane (Laconia), LRCC graphics and media arts professors and LRCC honors graduates themselves who have worked extensively in the industry.
"I am elated to be able to offer the Adobe Illustrator, Basic Video Capturing and Editing, and Adobe Photoshop workshops personally," says Place. "It is great to open our multi-million dollar laboratories to the community-at-large."
"I am also happy to offer the Adobe InDesign workshop to the general public," says Beane who is a Graphic Design Adjunct Professor at the College. "Increasing the knowledge base of the Lakes Region community and beyond is a great thing."
Workshop specifics follow:
Adobe Illustrator Workshop
Adobe Illustrator is a vector-based Illustration tool used to create clean, crisp graphics that are infinitely scalable to any size. This twelve-hour workshop takes you on a project-based tour of the basic tools, techniques and concepts in creating vector art with Adobe Illustrator. Basic abilities, such as opening and saving files on a computer are necessary.
The instructor will be Michael Place, a Graphic Design and Media Arts professor at LRCC. The workshop will be held on Wednesdays, January 22, January 29, February 5, and February 12, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $200 for all four evenings.
Basic Video Capture & Editing Workshop
This two-day eight-hour workshop is designed to help beginners with capturing and editing video. Whether the participant's camera is a DSLR, cell phone or anything in-between, the objective will be to help demystify menu settings and assign desired capture formats. Workshop attendees will learn how to load video onto a computer and open into a video editing program. Apple's iMovie will be used to create basic edits, add Titles and Credits, and output of a finished video ready for YouTube will be an end product.
The instructor is Michael Place. The workshop will be held on Saturdays, February 8, and February 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at a cost of $150 for both days.
Adobe Photoshop Workshop
Adobe Photoshop is known throughout the world as the number one photo editing software. This twelve-hour workshop takes you on a project-based tour of the basic tools, techniques, and concepts that every digital artist should know.
The instructor is Michael Place. The workshop will be held on Wednesdays, February 19, February 26, March 5, and March 12, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at a cost of $200 for all four evenings.
Adobe InDesign Workshop
Adobe InDesign is a powerful desktop publishing software used to create posters, brochures, magazines, flyers, and books – just to name a few. This twelve-hour workshop is project-based, bringing you through basic steps of page layout combined with time-saving techniques for a more efficient and productive workflow.
The instructor will be Gail Beane, Graphic Design Adjunct Professor at the College. The workshop will be held on Mondays, March 24, March 31, April 7, and April 14, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at a cost of $200 for all four evenings.
