PLYMOUTH — The Department of Music, Theater, and Dance at Plymouth State University will host more than 200 high school musician participants in the All New England Band Festival Monday, November 25 at 7 p.m. in the Hanaway Theater at the Silver Center for the Arts on the PSU campus.
The students will work with composer Samuel Hazo, and Thomas Root (Director of Bands at Weber State University in UT) throughout the day, forming two bands to rehearse music written by the guest conductors and others for the evening performance.
The Plymouth State University Symphonic Band, directed by Professor Mark Stickney, will open the performance with Samuel Hazo's Olympiada and Thomas Roots' Under the Rose, an unpublished work that will be performed outside of Utah for the first time. PSU Professor Fred Sienkiewicz will be featured as trumpet soloist on Bruce Broughton's Excursions, and the program will conclude with John Mackey's award-winning composition, Aurora Awakes.
