Alton Historical to hear about chinooks

ALTON —The Alton Historical Society program for Tuesday, September 17 will feature Bob Cottrell, Curator of the Henney History Room at the Conway Public Library and Board member of the Conway Historical Society. The program will start at 7 p.m. on the lower level of the Gilman Library.

Cottrell's program, Harnessing History: On The Trail of New Hampshire's State Dog, the Chinook, will include how dog sledding developed in New Hampshire and the role that the Chinook played. Bob will explain how man and his relationship with dogs won out over machines on several polar expeditions and he will cover the history of Arthur Walden and his Chinooks, the State Dog of New Hampshire.
