BARNSTEAD — A public information meeting to provide details about an assessment of the Suncook River will be held on Wednesday evening, August 28, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Barnstead Town Hall.
The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) is coordinating an assessment for the collection of scientific information that will identify areas of the Suncook River prone to river and stream erosion that can impact public health and safety.
The assessment, which is coordinated through the New Hampshire Geological Survey (NHGS), a unit of DES, and will be conducted between the fall of 2013 and spring of 2014.
The assessment will evaluate the present condition of the Suncook River to identify areas most prone to flood and erosion-related hazards. Additionally, from the information gathered, a long-term watershed plan can be developed by communities to identify options for river restoration in targeted areas to support water management and water quality objectives.
