GILFORD — The Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce will host the First Annual Community Hero Awards on Thursday, May 31 from 5–8 p.m. at the Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford.

This event will feature the Community Hero Awards that have been presented as part of both the Annual Meeting and Mix & Mingle in past years.

"Creating an event to specifically announce and recognize our Community Heroes is important to not only the Chamber but also the community to be able to give the deserved recognition to those who are nominated as community leaders," says Karmen Gifford, executive director of the Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce.

There will be four Community Hero awards presented at this year’s award ceremony. The four awards include: the Irwin Award, the Hurst Award, the J. Bart Conners Award and the Young Professionals Award.

The Irwin award was one of the first awards ever presented by the Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce back in 1964 and was presented and named after Jim Irwin Sr., legendary Lakes Region business leader and promoter who founded Irwin's Winnipesaukee Gardens and Irwin Marine. The Irwin Award represents and is still presented annually to recognize service to the Lakes Region, community leadership, a spirit of progress in the community and a pioneering attitude.

Those who wish to nominate a deserving community member for one of these prestigious awards or would like to attend this event, can log onto www.lakesregionchamber.org.
