MEREDITH — Jane I. Marett, 86, of Meredith, died on Feb. 9, 2018, at Meredith Bay Colony Club, Meredith.
Jane was born April 25, 1931, in Dover, the daughter of T. Charles and Ida Marett.
Jane was educated in the Dover schools, except for one year in Bradenton, Florida; and graduated in 1949.
Jane attended Keene Teachers College, Keene, graduating in 1953. She also took additional courses at the University of New Hampshire and the University of Connecticut.
Through the years, she taught kindergarten and grades 1, 2, 4 and 5. Her career began with two years in Goffstown, one year in Longhill, Connecticut, and five years at Manchester, Connecticut. She was then employed by the Department of Defense as an elementary teacher with the United States Air Force, teaching their dependents. Jane spent one year in Japan, one year in Labrador, one year in England, and two years in Germany. She then returned to the United States and completed 22 years to end her career in Concord.
She enjoyed ballroom, square, folk and western dancing. Her sports activities were many, which had included ice skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, swimming, kayaking, tennis, badminton, ping-pong, basketball and field hockey. As a spectator, she enjoyed all sports. She found great entertainment in attending theater and concerts. She was a supporter of the Community Concert Association. She was always eager to travel and enjoy and learn more of the United States and abroad.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Lloyd A. Marett and Norman C. Marett. Jane is survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Marett of North Carolina; nephew, Richard Marett and wife Janet of Iowa; niece, Pamela Marett of Texas; two grandnephews, Christopher Marett and wife Stephanie of Iowa, and Peyton Marett of Texas; grandniece, Rebecca Passi and husband Christopher of Minnesota; three great-grandnephews, Alexander and Owen Marett, and Ben Passi; great-grandniece, Keira Passi; and extended friends.
