Henry D. "Hank" Decato, 88

LACONIA — Henry D. "Hank" Decato passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 1, 2018.

He had been a patient at the Highlands Rehabilitation Facility in Edison, New Jersey, following treatment for congestive heart failure.

Hank was born Sept. 14, 1929, in Laconia, the son of Dallas and Exzelia (Rameor) Decato.

He was educated in Laconia schools. At the age of 17 he left with his guitar to pursue a career in country music. He became known as “the Gene Autry of New England” and traveled extensively throughout the country — making friends along the way — such as well-known Nashville, Tennessee, performers and later in California at the film capital where he became friends with Gene Autry until his death in 1998.

Hank is survived by his only living sibling, Regis LaCroix of Laconia; and his faithful companion, Louise Gray.

Hank was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, in 2007, as well as by his parents and Decato siblings, Dorea, Emile, Bertha, Ovide and Leo.

Hank is to be cremated and a burial will take place later in the spring.

Condolence messages can be mailed to Regis LaCroix, 27 Regis Road, Laconia, NH 03246, or Louise Gray, 12 Reseau Ave., So. Amboy, NJ 08879.
