Sandra "Sandy" L. Steele, 68
MEREDITH — Sandra "Sandy" Lee Steele, 68, of Leavitt Park Road, died peacefully, Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family after a short but arduous battle with cancer.
Sandra — also known as Sandy — was born April 14, 1949, in Laconia, daughter to the late Louis J. and Evelyn (Emmons) Gardner.
Throughout her life she worked diligently to provide for her family. In younger years, she worked in mills. Sandy worked as a food service provider and teacher at Ginger Bread Daycare in South Carolina, and then Lakes Region Childcare for 25 years. She volunteered for the Meredith Food Pantry for the past seven years. Sandy was, to say the least, a hard worker and stoic individual. At the age of 42 years old she acquired her GED with prior limited schooling. Sandy then went on to attain college credits in early childhood development. Of these victories she was proud of.
She was a selfless caretaker throughout her life. Sandra, affectionately called Nana by many, conveyed her love through filling hungry bellies and her kind but fierce sincerity. A devote Christian and member of the Bible Speaks Church for the past 20 years, she openly shared her love of Jesus as her Lord and Savior. At the Meredith Pantry she made many friends who she shared many laughs with and spoke dearly of.
In the end, she stated she did not want an obituary because she felt like her life didn’t matter, that she did not make a difference. However, many others would beg to differ such as her children, grandchildren, sisters, friends and husband. Sandra will truly be missed by all and has given this world an unparalleled love that should be strived for. Through these most recent experiences of vulnerability, it has become clear how much each single act of kindness can impact one’s life. Mom, Nana, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, Friend, and Wife we thank you for your endless dedication and tenacious love. You will live on the hearts of all who loved you. May you finally rest in heaven surrounded by light, family and God.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 34 years, Harry Steele of Meredith; a son, Leo "Timmy" Morin Jr., a stepson, Ray Steele; and a daughter, Sheila Bledsoe, nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Darleen Beattie and her husband, Larry Beattie. and Shirley Morin and her husband, Raymond Brulotte.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by two daughters, Tammy Williams and Brenda Steele; her brother, Louis "Sonny" J. Gardner; and her sister, Barbara Gardner.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private.
