Shirley C. McCue, 92

MOULTONBOROUGH — Shirley C. McCue, 92, of Moultonborough, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2017, at Forestview Manor in Meredith.

Born in Hillsdale, New Jersey, on Nov. 18, 1924, she was the daughter of Anthony Mortimer and Marguerite (Burdge) Colucci.

After graduating high school in Clifton, New Jersey, Shirley worked as a secretary until she met her husband, Ed. After several moves, Shirley and Ed relocated to North Andover, Massachusetts, where they raised four children.

Always willing to give back and be involved, she became a Cub Scout den mother and later a Girl Scout troop leader for many years. She was also president of the St. Michael's Guild for several years.

When her children got older, she returned to work part-time as a real estate agent and later became a secretary at the Language Lab at Merrimack College. She eventually became the director of the lab.

When her husband, Ed was offered a job in Saudi Arabia in the 1970s, she packed up to go and looked forward to the adventure even though it was difficult to leave her family and friends. Like always, she made the best of it.

Summer residents since 1962, Ed and Shirley retired to their beloved "camp" on Lake Kanasatka in 1982. Shirley once again became very involved in the community, volunteering at the the Loon Center, Center Harbor Historical Society, Center Harbor Women’s Club, the Science Center, in Holderness, and the Lake Kanasatka Watershed Association. She served as a trustee for the Moultonborough Public Library from 1988 to 2000. She was the recipient of the Mary Rice Award in 2000.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband Edwin J. McCue, who died in September 2012.

Shirley loved to garden, cook, travel and throw parties, especially at Christmas and the Fourth of July. She took great joy and pride in her family and friends and will be remembered for her caring and kindness. She was always willing to help anyone in need. Shirley was a wonderful, loving, gracious woman who made the most of things, living life to the fullest. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her children, Kevin A. McCue of Manchester, Colleen K. Anderson of Charlton, Massachusetts, Christine A. DiVincenzo of Kennebunk, Maine, Nancy J. McCue of Moultonborough, her grandson, Trevor E. McCue, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in the Holland Hill Cemetery, Moultonborough, on Monday, July 17, at 11a.m.

Shirley’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Forestview Manor for their compassionate care and kindness.
