Blanche S. Glanzman, 94
MEREDITH — Blanche Sarah Glanzman, born on Nov. 17, 1922, in Plainfield, New Jersey, and died on Feb. 14, 2017, at her home at Meredith Bay Colony Club in Meredith. She was 94 years old.
Mrs. Glanzman led an active life filled with family, creativity, and accomplishments. While she and her husband, John, were raising four children in the 1960s, Mrs. Glanzman organized a sizable orchid show in Washington, D.C., where she was president of the National Captial Orchid Society. In Virginia she was a real estate broker, which led her to form her own housing construction company. In the 1970s she went on to become the first female president of the Builders Association in northern Virginia.
Never one to idle away her hours, Mrs. Glanzman also was accomplished in the many creative endeavors that she enjoyed, including sewing, painting, quilting, beading, and jewelry making. She was an avid news junky, keeping up with world affairs right to the end and loved to share her memories of many decades living through American history in the 20th century.
Blanche Glanzman was predeceased by her husband, John B. Glanzman (who died in 1986); and one daughter, Carolyn Knott.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Brown of Ellicott City, Maryland; three daughters, Priscilla Sciandra of Leland, North Carolina, Kathryn Glanzman of Holderness, and Margaret Hendel of Waterville Valley; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 93 Route 25 in Meredith. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in the spring.
