FRANKLIN — Joan W. (Burley) Swett, 81, a lifelong resident of Franklin, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, following a lengthy period of failing health.

Joan was born in Franklin, March 28, 1935, daughter of Frank W. Burley Sr. and Pauline (Kimball) Burley.

She was schooled in Franklin and was a graduate of Franklin High School, class of 1953.

Over the years, Joan was employed as a secretary and held administrative positions with both Public Service of New Hampshire and the Franklin School System. She retired in 1987.

Joan served as the treasurer with the Franklin Cemetery Association. She also served as a supervisor of the Checklist for the City of Franklin. Joan was a lifelong member of the Congregational Christian Church in Franklin.

Known for her baking skills, Joan was always there baking for friends and family and always available with her delights when fundraising events occurred. With her pleasant personality, Joan always seemed to be there when a helping hand was needed.

In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by a brother, Frank W. Burley Jr.

Married Aug. 15, 1959, Joan leaves her husband, Lawrence R. Swett of Franklin. She also leaves her children, S. Paul Swett of Tilton, Douglas F. Swett and his wife, Angela of Franklin, Brian S. Swett and his wife, Vicki of Concord; and a daughter, Lori A. Sanborn and her husband, Craig of Maidstone, Vermont; grandchildren, Alexa Demsey, Matthew Swett, Katelyn Shelton, Cody, Kurt, Jillian and Julia Swett, Melanie Gardner, Derek and Jed Sanborn; great-grandchildren, Evan, Sadie, Levi, Max and Eli Sanborn; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Respecting Joan's wishes, there are no calling hours planned. Services will be private for her family. Burial will be in the family lot at Franklin Cemetery when weather permits later in the spring.
