Gilford Volleyball earns final four spot for 24th consecutive year

GILFORD — The Gilford High School volleyball team outlasted Oyster River 3-2 Saturday night as senior captain Brooke Beaudet hammered down 21 kills, half the team’s 42 total, to help Gilford punch their ticket into the final four.
The top-ranked Golden Eagles (15-2) will play fifth ranked Portsmouth tonight at 7 p.m. at Pinkerton Academy. Second-ranked Milford plays third-ranked Windham at 5 p.m.
This is Gilford’s 24th year in a row making a semi-final appearance and 29th overall. Set scores were 25-15, 25-15, 12-25, 22-25, 15-9
Gilford has been in a fifth set three times this year and knows the importance of jumping out to an early lead. They did exactly that. Brooke Beaudet put down kills for points 2, 4 and 5, Maggie McNeil served an ace for point 3, Karly Sanborn served an ace for point 6 and Abby O’Connor had a kill for point 7 to give Gilford a quick 7-3 lead. Maggie McNeil added kills for points 9 and 11 which was enough to secure the 15-9 win and a trip back to Pinkerton Academy.

Undefeated Inter-Lakes beat Moultonborough 3-0 Saturday while Newfound beat Farmington 3-1, Winnisquam beat Prospect Mountain 3-0 and Campbell beat Belmont 3-0.
Tonight at Plymouth State, Winnisquam meets Campbell at 5 p.m. and Inter-Lakes faces Newfound at 7 p.m.
The winners meet at 7 p.m. Friday at PSU in the championship game.

Second-ranked Hopkinton beat 10th ranked Prospect Mountain 3-1, top-ranked Derryfield beat eighth-ranked Belmont 3-0, 4th-ranked Raymond beat fifth-ranked Campbell 3-2 in overtime and third-ranked Gilford beat sixth-ranked Stevens 1-0.
Hopkinton plays Gilford on Wednesday at Laconia High School at 4 p.m. Derryfield plays Raymond at 6 p.m. The winners will meet Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University at 1:45 p.m.
