Prescott Farm announces new camp director

LACONIA — Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center has hired Kate Banyas at its new camp director.

A New Hampshire native, Banyas spent her childhood exploring the great outdoors and attending summer camp. She graduated from Sterling College in Vermont with a B.A. in natural history education and also graduated from Lesley University with a M.S. in ecological teaching and learning.

She has a combined 12 years of experience working at summer camps, with six years working at traditional camps and six years working at science- and nature-themed camps.

In her spare time Banyas loves bird watching, hiking, camping, skiing, snowshoeing, traveling, kayaking, fiber arts, and gardening.

“When I was a camper, summer camp had such a positive impact on my life and shaped me into the person I am today," said Banyas. "As a camp director, I want to provide a similar experience for our campers — a safe space for children to explore the outdoors and nature, and to explore who they are as individuals. I’m so excited to begin a new chapter of my career at beautiful Prescott Farm! I’m looking forward to sharing my passions of ecology, birds, and summer camp with this community,” she added.
