LACONIA — Irwin Automotive Group has made a $25,000 donation to the Colonial Theatre renovation project.
When approached to make a donation to help restore the 103-year-old theater in downtown Laconia, the Irwin Automotive Group was eager and proud to support the redevelopment project with a $25,000 donation. The Irwin Automotive Group hopes this will bring a rebirth to downtown Laconia.
Chris Irwin, vice president of the Irwin Automotive Group, said, "This is a very special project to me and my family. As the third generation of Irwins to live and raise a family in Laconia, I am excited to someday bring my family to a part of Laconia history that was often visited by my grandparents and parents for many years."
The Colonial Theatre was built in 1914 and once hosted various shows and special events. It is known for its unique architecture and designs. The building was then used as a movie theater that in the 1980s and was fitted with five screens. It has been vacant since 2003 when it was only used as a movie complex during Laconia Motorcycle Week. The renovation project is estimated to be completed by 2018.
